Allen Combs, tenor, is a native of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and was educated at the University of Idaho and the University of Lowell. He has been a soloist with The Dedham Choral Society, Cambridge Community Chorus, Lawrence Choral Arts Society, Merrimack Valley Philharmonic Society, and the Reading Symphony Orchestra, as well as the choirs of Harvard, Brown, and Tufts University.
Mr. Combs also performs frequently at Phillips Academy, Andover, where he is a member of the voice faculty. His repertoire includes the B-Minor Mass, St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion of J.S. Bach; Mozart's Requiem and "Coronation" Mass; Haydn's The Creation; and Handel's Israel in Egypt and Esther. Mr. Combs' opera appearances include Britten's Albert Herring, Mozart's Zaide, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, and Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel. His recital repertoire embraces music from the Renaissance to the twentieth century, and includes the major song cycles of Schubert and Britten.
An avid proponent of new music, Mr. Combs has given world premieres at the Lowell New Music Festival and Cambridge's 'Composers In Red Sneakers'. Also active as a choral conductor, Combs is now in his tenth season as music director of the Andover Choral Society. He was soloist for five years at Trinity Church, and is currently a soloist at The Church of the Advent, where he also serves as cantor.
