Gerald Thomas Gray

Gerald Thomas Gray, tenor, received degrees from Austin Peay State University and the Eastman School of Music, and is currently completing doctoral studies at the University of Iowa. He is a member of "Opera To Go", an educational company which performs throughout the East Coast, and is on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music and the Walnut Hill School for the Arts.

This season, Mr. Gray had several engagements with the Handel and Haydn Society, including Handel's Dixit Dominus and Handel's oratorio Semele. He performed in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde at Harvard University, in Handel's Israel in Egypt with the Heritage Chorus, and as a Funeral Voice in Phillip Glass' Akhnaten.

As a member of Emmanuel Music, Mr. Gray recently made his recording debut on the Koch International Label, and sang the role of Tom in scenes from John Harbison's The Great Gatsby, under the direction of the composer. Other highlights with Emmanuel include the Bach Magnificat with Seiji Ozawa and the role of Peter in Handel's Brockes Passion conducted by Craig Smith.

Mr. Gray will also debut at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival as a soloist in "Music of the American Synagogue" under the direction of Samuel Adler.
