[Notes from Handel Messiah manuscript]

October 9, 1999

Dear Chorus Members and Friends,

10th Anniversary Messiah -- Ten years ago, the Cambridge Community Chorus performed Handel's Messiah for the very first time. Our 10th anniversary performance on Sunday, December 12 will be a truly exciting concert -- whether you appear on the stage or listen from the audience. The performance will be held in the newly renovated Kresge Auditorium at MIT and we have an extraordinary group of soloists including Robert Honeysucker, Anna Soranno (from the Zurich Opera), Allen Combs, Dianna Daly, and Patricia Dance. Join us for this wonderful concert!

'Rehearsing the Messiah', A Video -- Rehearsals for the Messiah will be videotaped by Peter Kastner, instructor at the CRLS Video Club. Peter is interested in documenting the way a concert comes together, as well as capturing the uniqueness of the Cambridge Community Chorus. He will be taping at all rehearsals, as well as during backstage preparations for the concert. All participants in this year's Messiah will be asked to sign a release form, as is usual during the production of a documentary video. William and the CCC Board hope you will all cooperate in this venture. We think it will be a wonderful opportunity to show others what makes our Chorus so special.

Cambridge Sings -- Join us for an evening of music with members of the Cambridge Community Chorus and the Cambridge Rindge & Latin Vocal Ensemble on Saturday evening, 7:30 pm at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 239 Harvard St. This concert will give you a taste of the music to be performed at our May 21, 2000, concert - Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass. The CRLS Vocal Ensemble will also sing several songs from their repertoire. Thanks to Father Foxx and the congregation of St. Bartholomew's for sharing their church for our rehearsals and concert.

Congratulations to the Cambridge Choral Scholars -- The Cambridge Community Chorus has continued to sponsor a program it initiated two years ago to encourage participation in vocal music by students from Cambridge Rindge & Latin School, and to offer them performance opportunities. This September four vocal students were selected by audition from the Vocal Ensemble to become Cambridge Choral Scholars: Farrah-Lissa Alexis, soprano, Tania Shabazz, alto, Alex Valdivia, tenor, Patrick Huguenin, bass.

The Choral Scholars will each receive a cash award of $100 as well as opportunities to perform together. In addition, the Chorus is sponsoring master classes for students of voice at CRLS, with the Choral Scholars as the featured singers for the master teacher. A special highlight for this year's Scholars was participation in a class given by Bobby McFerrin at Phillips Academy in Andover.

Joyful Noise Celebration -- In January 2000, members of the Chorus will be participating in the Joyful Noise Celebration of Martin Luther King's birthday. If you are not joining us for the Messiah but would like to sing in the Joyful Noise concert in Sanders Theatre, please call Penny Peters (491-4887) and leave your name and phone number.

Nunes Garcia CDs -- If you ordered a CD of last spring's concert and would like to pick it up, call Merri Ansara at 491-5392. Merri will also have them available at Messiah rehearsals at $7 per CD.

We need your help! -- Please read the other letter enclosed with this mailing and use that little envelope. We depend on our membership for much of our support, and are very grateful for any contribution you can make. Thank you.
