What's New?

As we head into our 11th season, the Cambridge Community Chorus has much to be proud of and much to look forward to. Not only was our Spring concert last May the most challenging program we have yet performed - the choral movement from Beethoven's 9th and Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass - but it was also our most well-attended spring concert ever. Many thanks to MIT for allowing us to use Kresge Auditorium for the performance. The Chorus was also one of four Cambridge arts groups chosen to be honored at MIT's 2000 Cambridge First Day. The recognition and the $1000 award were much appreciated.

Our mailing list keeps growing, and since some of you may not be familiar with our performance schedule, here's a general calendar of concerts and appearances:

October 17  Fall Evening of Music, with the Cambridge Rindge & Latin Vocal Ensemble
December 10  Handel's Messiah at Kresge Auditorium, MIT, 3pm.
January  Participation in the Joyful Noise Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday
April  Participation in the Cambridge Holocaust Remembrance ceremony
May 20  Spring Concert with the CRLS Vocal Ensemble

In addition we sponsor a Cambridge Choral Scholars program at CRLS, offer sessions of voice classes in winter and summer for our members, and perform for the patients at Youville Hospital in December. Not every Chorus member participates in every event, but our season offers something for everyone.

CCC BOARD CHANGES

Two valuable Chorus members have stepped down from the Board: Donna Bayne and Gaby Friedler. Both have been valuable members of our group for many years and Donna has been a Board member since the Chorus was incorporated in 1993. Many thanks to both of them for their counsel and service, and we're pleased that they will still continue to sing with us.

The two new Board members are soprano Donna Killoran, who is coordinating this year's Messiah concert, and Dan Malis, bass, who is taking over as Fundraising Chairperson from Rena Leib. We're glad to welcome them to the Board and to thank Rena yet again, not only for her five years as President of the Chorus, but also for her many years as chief fundraiser. Fortunately, we'll still have her valuable input on the Board.

Any Questions? Call Penny Peters, President (491-4887).

See you on September 16!
